Can Engineered Stone Be Repaired?

What can and cannot be repaired on engineered stone and quartz benchtops, including chips, cracks and join issues.

Yes, engineered stone can be repaired

Engineered stone and quartz benchtops are popular for their durability and consistent appearance, but they can still chip, crack or suffer from join and silicone issues. In many cases, these can be repaired by a stone technician experienced with engineered materials.

Chip and edge repairs

Small chips along edges and corners can be filled with colour-matched resin and polished to blend with the surrounding surface. Because engineered stone has a consistent colour, matching is often easier than with natural stone. Larger chips or missing pieces may need a more involved repair or replacement of the section.

Cracks and join issues

Hairline cracks and failed seams can sometimes be stabilised and re-bonded. The key is matching the engineered stone's appearance and finish. Joins that have separated or discoloured can be re-filled and polished to restore a continuous look. Heat and impact damage are the most common causes of cracks in engineered stone.

What cannot be repaired

Severe heat damage, deep burns across a large area, or structural cracks that affect the entire slab may not be repairable to a satisfactory standard. In those cases, replacement may be the better option. We assess every benchtop honestly and recommend repair only when it will deliver a lasting result.

Frequently asked questions

Can you repair a chip in a Caesarstone benchtop?

+

Yes. Caesarstone and similar engineered quartz products can be repaired for chips and edge damage using colour-matched resin and polishing.

Does engineered stone need sealing?

+

No. Engineered stone is non-porous and does not require sealing. However, the joins and silicone around sinks may need maintenance over time.

Can you polish engineered stone?

+

Light polishing and refinishing are possible, but engineered stone is harder to restore than natural stone. We assess the finish and damage before recommending treatment.
